Grace Episcopal Church was originally built in 1697 and has seen Yorktown through the best and the worst of times.In 1781 it was used as a storage facillity by the English army.During their stay they destroyed much of the furniture and broke out windows.

In 1814 the Church would again be desecrated.Yorktown was set ablaze, it is beleived the English were responsible for this as well as they were angered over their loss of the War of 1812 and English ships had been seen in the Chesapeake Bay.

After the fire the Church was rebuilt only to be demolished once again.During the Civil War Federal troops accidentally ignited a supply of gunpowder causing an explosion that leveled that part of the city.The Church was again rebuilt and is still in use today.

Many of Yorktown's most notable figures are buried in the cemetery surrounding the Church including Thomas Nelson Jr.

There is a particular story of a spectral funeral seen taking place at Grace Episcopal that was first reported in 1791.There are also reports of a woman holding a lifeless child being seen inside the Church.I have also been told by some of the locals of a woman seen wearing clothing of the past who seems to be paying her respects at a gravesite but if she notices she is being watched she turns to run and disappears before your eyes.
