The information contained in this F.A.Q.pertains only to the general operation of Hampton Roads Paranormal Research Group.
What equipment do I need to join H.R.P.R.G.?
We do not require that you have any equipment to join but there are some items we suggest if you would like to capture your own paranomral activity.First,a simple 35mm camera. It does not have to be expensive.I strongly suggest using Kodak 800 speed film but 400 speed will work too.You may also wish to purchase a tape recorder and seperate microphone. You can find both of these items at most department stores and should not have to spend more than thirty to forty dollars for both items.Of course you may also want to have a flashlight.
If I chose to have my home investigated, what can H.R.P.R.G. do for me?
There are several things the group can do for those who are experiencing unexplained phenomena.Generally we will investigate the home to see if we can document paranormal activity, research the history of the home or land, and show the residents how they may document activity themselves. What we do not do is attempt to rid a house of the Spirit or Spirits there.
What qualifies someone to be an H.R.P.R.G. investigator?
We require that you have knowledge of the proper way to use the equipment we use, that you are knowledgable about the way we conduct our investigations, that you have experience ghost hunting and investigating with us or another group, and that you maintain the standards of our group.
What is the process H.R.P.R.G. goes through before declaring something as authentic paranormal evidence?
Atleast one of our investigators has to be present at the time the photo was taken or the audio or video tape was recorded. If, while reviewing the photograph, audio or video tape we find something we believe to be anomalous we have another investigator analyze it to see if that investigator can come up with a logical explanation for the phenomena. If two investigators cannot identify a known cause then the photograph, audio or video tape is considered genuine by H.R.P.R.G.
Do you have permission for all of your ghost hunts?
Quite simply,no we do not.The reason for this is permission is not usually granted when we do request it however, we do have some guidelines we follow. We do not trespass on private property. If an area is posted that you can not enter during certain hours we obey the signs. If an area is not posted but we are aware they are not open at night as in the case with many local cemeteries we will ghost hunt there at dusk or just after dark but we will not enter late at night.
How do you get permission for investigations?
If there is an area that is at various times open to the public and we are interested in investigating it we will send a formal request for permission to investigate by mail. Many times when we do recieve permission the oweners/managers/directors will ask us not to release information about our research there and we do keep such information private.
We do not seek out private homes to investigate. We do investigate private homes but only when asked to do so by the owners or tenants.H.R.P.R.G. will never knock on doors or harass homeowners in any way.
Do you use psychics?
We do not rely on psychics in our research however.we will not turn anyone down for membership if they profess to be a pyschic or senstive.
How do you know where to ghost hunt?
We have found that we have the most luck at places with a long history so that is the type of place we seek out.Particularly if there are any ghost stories associated with the site.Other than that nearly all cemeteries seem to have some level of activity. This is not to say that all cemeteries are haunted. We do not beleive they are.
What is the difference between a ghost hunt and an investigation?
A ghost hunt can be conducted at any place suspected of having Spirit activity. The purpose for these is to gain research experience for our investigators and group members and to obtain evidence of paranormal activity. We also use ghost hunts as a way of testing out theories we may have.
An investigation involves researching the history of a site and interviewing any witnesses. We are also better able to have a controlled environment while we attempt to document activity.
To sum it up,in ghost hunts our goal is to find out if a place has unexplained phenomena and in investigations our goal is to find out if and why a place has unexplained phenomena.
